This is the last weekend before Wandsworth demolishes its Adventure Playgrounds.
An event to protest the decision and say thank you to the excellent staff (who will lose their jobs) took place at Battersea Park Adventure Playground yesterday. A similar event will take place at York Gardens Adventure Playground from 2pm today.
ITN News reported from Battersea Park Adventure playground yesterday. The video can be seen here.
The ITN News report begins: “Battersea is a social melting-pot, and nowhere is it more evident than in the park’s adventure playground. On summer holidays three to four thousand kids come here because it is enormous fun, it is safe and it is supervised… On Monday it shuts its high gates for the winter, and when it re-opens it won’t be the same place. These loft challenging creations, which can be whatever a child’s imagination wants will be gone, replaced by commercially built equipment, so will the fences be gone, and so will the staff…”
